Halle, November 2023. On 27 November 2023, the MehrSelbst project welcomed Prof. Hans-Joachim Roth (University of Cologne/ Mercator Institute for Language Promotion and German as a Second Language) for an Exchange Day and a guest lecture entitled “Language-sensitive Work in Transfer. How do we design language education work at the transitional stages?“.
The day began in the MehrSelbst project rooms, where the project management team and the project members welcomed Prof. Roth. In a friendly atmosphere we presented the project and its current development processes. This was followed by an interesting discussion, including a fruitful exchange of perspectives and experiences.
The discussions continued during lunch at the “Nudelmanufaktur” near the Francke Foundations. Shortly afterwards, the day continued with a meeting with the project’s cooperation partner, the Francke Foundations. The main focus of the discussion with the head of the Family Competence Centre and the contact person for school social work was on how the findings of the project and the resulting support modules can best be transferred into practice. The practice partners contributed with their expertise and talked about the possibilities for integrating the support modules in their respective institutions.
The guest lecture by Prof. Roth started at 4 p.m.: “Language-sensitive Work in Transfer. How do we design language education work at the transitional stages?” The lecture hall in Building 32 was filled with many eager listeners. The educational programme “Rucksack” presented by Prof. Roth sparked great interest among the audience. It is a parent education programme for multilingual families. A special aspect of the programme is that parents are actively involved in the “Rucksack” groups, which received a lot of positive feedback in recent years.
