Collaboration in the international project “Communication, Societies, Cultures”

Since 15 November 2023, Maria Busch has been a research member of the international and interdisciplinary research group of the project
“Communication, Societies, Cultures” alongside researchers from the University of Bíobío (Chile) and the University of Kentucky in Lexington (USA).

The project is led by Dr Jaime Crisosto Alarcón and is funded until November 2025 by the University of Bíobío in the “Research Groups” funding line under the heading “Formation of Research Groups” (Grupos de Investigación, Grupo en Formación).

The research group consists of an interdisciplinary team from the fields of speech therapy and linguistics (Dr Jaime Crisosto Alarcón, Dr Carlos Rojas Zepeda, Yuri Vega Rodríguez, Maria Busch), nutrition and health sciences (Dr Eduard Maury Sintjago) as well as linguistics and gender studies (Prof. Rusty Barrett).

The project’s key research areas are

1. the methodological development of qualitative, horizontal research approaches in linguistics and speech therapy,

2. analysing the use and function of language in diverse contexts and target groups and

3. the exploration and study of experiences and perspectives of health in diverse contexts, taking into consideration language as a positioning strategy.

The group began its digital, Spanish-language collaboration in November, and joint research activities in Chile are planned for the second half of the project.
